Mission Statement

To ensure the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and protected areas in Guatemala and the natural goods and services that these provide present and future generations, through designing, coordinating and ensuring the implementation of policies, standards, incentives and strategies, in collaboration with other actors.’

Composition and Membership 

This Council has a specific focus on protected areas, rather than SD at large, though the links to SD are well noted throughout its visions and documentation.

The Council was created by law in 1989, tasked with directly reporting to the President of the Republic.

Technical Director: Inga. Raquel Siguenza.

Role and Functions

  • advising on government policy or making policy recommendations, including NSDS; and
  • stakeholder engagement

 

Recent Activities

‘CONAP Infantil’ provides a learning and interaction online space for children to engage.

CONAP also has regional offices across Guatemala.

The council’s current ‘Strategic Institutional Plan’ runs from 2011-2015.
