Role and Functions

The Gabonese National Commission for Sustainable Development (Commission Nationale du Développement Durable - CNDD) has an advisory position. It gathers and analyses information for the government. It evaluates past policies successes and budgets.

Composition and Membership

In Gabon, the CNDD was created in 2005 by presidential decree.

It is under the authority of the Ministry of the Environment and is mainly funded by the Gabonese State. The CNDD President and the Vice-President are chosen by the Ministry of the Environment.

Recent Activities

In 2011, important meetings and discussions took place in Libreville. These discussions aimed to establish the national sustainable development strategy. The Gabonese CNDD participated to the event and provided recommendations to the government.

In 2013, the Gabonese Republic adopted the National Strategy for Sustainable Development (SNDD), as outcome of the Libreville meeting.
